There's a little-known bug in J! 1.5.23 that affects people who have websites with page views that change after you've looked at them. This may not affect most people but it's a real nuisance when you're looking at a Joomla forum (like Kunena) and you want to see what's new (that you haven't yet looked at).

We can see this happen at this website. Login to the site and go to the Recent Topics page. Look at the green NEW! indicators and open a topic. Now go back to the Index page and you will still see the NEW! indicator even though you have read it.

If you refresh the page, the indicator disappears. Obviously it's a bit of a nuisance if you have to keep doing that all the time and even worse if you have a busy forum and you rely on the My Topics or Recent Topics views to see what has not yet been answered.

There are two ways to fix this problem.

(1) Apply the fix described here: joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker...racker_item_id=25690

(2) Copy the file ../libraries/joomla/environment/response.php from a J! 1.5.22 installation kit (or from another J! 1.5.22 site) to your site.

This Joomla bug does not just affect Kunena. It affects all Joomla pages whose content changes after you've viewed them.

I hope that this helps.

I have attached the patched file. Unzip the archive and copy the file to ../libraries/joomla/environment/

File Name: response.zip

As per your sig, I think your'e wrong.

Can't repeat that behaviour in FF4, but that's not to say Dex hasn't applied the patch and resolved it, in which case the topic should change to SOLVED. It also may have been resolved by the sh404SEF update I did late last week.

Keen to also find out more on the Kunena Sh404SEF issues from you. I believe a Kunena & JomSocial update is being looked at asap, which I hope fixes the various issues so might wait on that first to see if it fixes it all.

When I posted this topic, two weeks ago, at this site, the behaviour was evident (at this site). In that time the behaviour has changed. Evidently the patch I posted has been applied (perhaps another of your colleagues can confirm this to be the case).

We should discuss those other issues separately. We can "skype" those things.

"Solved" ... ah, that's a question for each person who has J! 1.5.23. Yes, I've shown people how to solve it. I've solved the problem at my sites (and it's solved here at this website) but I couldn't find a more appropriate category that affects all users of J! 1.5.23 (including, at the time, this site). I hope that better clarifies the situation.

I'll leave it to you do deal with this topic in a more fitting way if you think so.

BTW ... thanks, for not accusing me of being wrong.

Hi

As you may remember, you and I discussed on the phone. I applied this patch when you posted it.
So it should be fine

Yes, it's fine as far as this website is concerned. The reason I posted the fix was also for the thousands of other J! 1.5.23 sites.

Do you have a place where we can put a general warning about this J! 1.5.23 bug in case others are interested in knowing what to do to fix it?
