I was unable to upload this file using Kunena Attachments Add File.

The file is 70KB (cf max file size of 150KB). It's 890px wide, exceeding the limit of 800px - according to the Kunena Forum Configuration, the file should just be truncated to 800px.

Furthermore, Kunena gives you no indication of the problem - just doesn't include the file.

BTW, I'll try uploading the file again to this post - If you can't see it, it didn't work.

No, it didn't work - please feel free to try it yourself!

Wow that's annoying. The old versions just used to stretch the window to accommodate.
Any ideas on how we can do this better?
thx

I misinterpreted the error. I didn't notice the (rather unhelpful) error message at the top of the screen saying
Failed to upload file '2011-03-31_0648.png': The file size (193667) exceeds the maximum set by the administrator.
Here's what's happening:-
  • I'm uploading a 70kB PNG file which exceeds the max width of 800px;
  • Kunena automatically resizes to 800px wide and makes a hash of it - the file size increases (while reducing quality);
  • The revised file size now exceeds the maximum filesize of 150kB and it is rejected.

Not sure that it's a bug, but if I hadn't been able to look through the code I wouldn't have worked it out.

Dex, I suggest you might increase the maximum file size to, say, 300kB.

Peter, I'm new to Kunena and developing a photography forum.

I read the advice that oversized photos would be resized and couldn't work out why my images wouldn't simply resize and upload.

So I did the same as you have suggested, increased the max filesize to 300kb.

I have a maximum image size of 1000px wide and I think it's 800px high.

Saving an image as a JPEG at 85% quality, although the file size varies a fair bit with the number of colours or some such, 300kb is plenty.

I don't think I did anything special. The original window presents the photo with in the browser window. If I make the browser window skinny, the photo loads smaller. I have it set to give the lightbox and when I click the original photo the lightbox opens full size.
On the way to being a basic Joomla user.

Max file size increased to 300 kB. Now it works as you can see.
