Hi there

just seen your post, thought i may offer some help..

loading MAMP on your Mac is not the fastest way to build a site, as you will in the end still need to transfer joomla to a web host to put the site live.

instead i recommend signing up for hosting with a company that runs CPanel and Fantastico [there are many, but if you're stuck try http://rochenhost.com]

then when you log in to your hosting account cpanel, click the fantastico icon and select joomla and it will auto-install for you (on some hosts you may need to pre-create a MySQL database).

then you just need to find a template and install it (search for one at bestofjoomla.com - free and commercial template directory) and you're off and running.

i also recommend you upgrade your newly created joomla site to the latest version (currently 1.5.11) download the upgrade here: www.joomla.org/download.html as fantastico often installs a dated version.

hope that helps

I currently use MAMP for developing joomla sites on my mac and can recommend it.

If you're on a tight deadline though, it's probably best to develop it online in a subdirectory of your site (assuming you've got the domain & hosting).

Another great site for (commercial) templates is RocketTheme. They also have something called "Rocketlauncher" which is a joomla installation package that includes their templates, components/plugins and sample data. It's a great way to get a kick start (sorry, that wasn't a paid endorsement - I'm just a big fan).

Don't forget to check out how to secure your Joomla site too - you don't want it hacked once you've got it live.
