I installed 1.0 on the account I have and run have a live site using the install. I then installed 1.5 under a separate directory than the root. Now I have completed the 1.5 site i would like to make it my default site to be seen. Should I follow the instructions on something like moving a joomla site from one host to another (www.howtojoomla.net/2006092217/how-tos/i...site-to-a-new-server) or is there a simpler way?

Currently I have to other site installed under public_html/joomlanew.

BACKUP FIRST then..

How I do it is to take both sites offline, then bump your 1.0 site in to a new subdirectory (just by moving the whole bundle of files and directories, using cpanel File Manager or equivalent) and editing configuration.php to reflect new paths and URLs.

You may need to watch out for hardcoded paths in component configurations, as well as hardcoded links and image paths anywhere. Test it first by copying the site and running something like Xenu link checker. On some servers, you may also need to edit your Base in .htaccess to get your sef urls working properly.

once complete, your root level should look kinda empty and your two sites are both working in subdirectories.

then grab everything in your 1.5 subdirectory and move it up to root level (again, using cpanel filemanager). it taKES less massaging than j1.0, so test it right off the bat.

Thanks Dex. That is pretty much how I went about it. it is all up and working now. The one thing I had to do though was that I had a link or 2 that went to an internal page and because originally they pointed to a page in the joomlanew folder, I had to correct it. All good not though.
