I look after a website for a sports club and the are both 1.0 versions. With the latest version 1.5 I have the following to ask.

1. Can you upgrade to 1.5 and still use the same template, or does it depend on the template? How do I check if it will work in 1.5 prior to any upgrade?

2. Extensions - I want to put a picture gallery for some shots of the players, etc. With the ones on offer, will the 1.5 work with the 1.0 versions or again does it depend?

3. This looks pretty good. Would this work in a 1.0 version?

I understand the reasons for using the 1.5 version but I don't really want to use a new template at this stage as I have only just updated it.

Thanks for your help,

JL

Hi John

1. A 1.0 template will NOT work on 1.5 unless it was designed to do so. You can test it by installing it on a new 1.5 site. If it only works with the Legacy mode plugin published, then it doesnt work on 1.5!
[a template is very quick to update to 1.5 though]

2. Recommend switching to a new gallery component native to 1.5 after upgrade, unless you have a compelling reason to do otherwise. Try Phoca Photo Gallery.
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/photos-...s/photo-gallery/3150
Or Simple Image gallery which works with 1.0 and 1.5
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/photos-...s/photo-gallery/1468

3. Huh? do you mean this template? why do you want it to work with 1.0 if you are upgrading? Not sure I understand

Sorry Dex...

3. I meant this photo gallery: morfeoshow.joomlaitalia.com/

Back to point 1...how easy is it to do? I am happy to give it a try if there are some directions for dummies such as myself....

Also, so you are saying that a template only designed for 1.0 WILL work on 1.5 if legacy mode is chosen? is there any benefit/detriment to this method?

I found this in regards to updating a template from 1.0 to 1.5. Which sould a little to easy for me. Link is: forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=236&t=290790

Here is a little hack to make Joomla 1.0 template to work on Joomla 1.5. All
you need to do is to convert a Joomla 1.0 template to Joomla 1.5 is to change
the templateDetails.xml file.

Joomla 1.0 templateDetails.xml:
<mosinstall type="template" version="1.0.0">
.
</mosinstall>

Joomla 1.5 templateDetails.xml:
<install type="template" version="1.5">
.
</install>

This will install the Joomla 1.0.x template and it will work as if it was in
Joomla 1.0.x

Let me know if this works for you.

I have seen other articles that seem a little more involved.....do you have a link dex on something that has worked for you?

Hi John

Yep converting a template is not hard to do...if you know how! I mean it doesnt take long.

I wouldnt run in legacy mode if i could help it. Who wants old technology? Less efficient.

That hack is only a part of the conversion - it will NOT make a 1.0 template run on 1.5. There are a bunch of PHP calls in the template to convert to 1.5 for one thing.

This summary is a qucik-and-dirty:
joomlatp.com/joomla-1.5-tutorials/4-step...emplates-to-1.5.html

but i'd be checking all the code myself - who knows what lurks in your 1.0 template until you look?

Probably a task you might need to handover to an expert?

If you are hellbent on doing your own job, two more excellent references are Andrew Eddie's 1.0 -> 1.5 reference here

and the old faithful Barrie North 1.5 template tutorial here:
