I am trying to find a way where a client can only access the login page by a URL so it is pretty much known only to him. I am kind of there but the login input boxes do not show. Does anyone have any hints on this?

URL: www.sunnysolar.net.au/index.php?option=com_user&view=login

Thanks in advance,

John

Since the module says you need to login this would suggesst the module isn't public - change it to public but put it in a none module position. It you turn on SEF the URL will be non standard as well.

Ian, wouldn't I get a "you do not have permission to access" or something like that? The SEF is turned on and I have tried varying links but still get the same result. It is just that the login boxes are missing. I am thinking it could be the template? There is no setting for the login and password boxes that I am missing right?

I published the login module to a postion of 'nopos' (or anything you want to call it). I allow Public Access level to the login module. I've setup an example for you : www.yws.com.au/index.php?option=com_user&view=login will access the login module - because it is published to a module position that doesn't exist you don't see it on any page.
Not really a secret - just hidden from non Joomla junkies.

John, I think the easiest solution is this:

1. create a new menu which you do not display in a module on the web site (although you could temporarily display it if you want to double check which url is created for the login link)
2. create a login link per usual in this menu, make the alias something like 'login'
3. then depending on your SEF settings you will be able to access the login page at /login.html or /login

Problem is menus link to articles and components and login is a modules so do this

1. Go to the module manager, open the login module and give a unique name in the position field. Example: custom1.
2. Create a new article preferably uncategorized. Give it the name of your module.
3. In the body area of the article type {loadposition custom1} and save your article.
4. Create a Menu link to this article in the desired menu. You should select 'Article layout.'

Thats all, your module will now load from the menu link directly.

This has an added advantage of giving you SEO prominance based on the meta info you give for this article.

Sorry I have not got to you earlier. I have been flat out.

Both good suggestions and I have tried them both but the main problem seems to be that there are no login text boxes. Have a look at this link: sunnysolar.net.au/login

Thanks for your help,

JL

I can see the 'username' and 'password' text boxes on that page (IE) - isn't that what you are looking for?

You know in my haste I did not check IE. I use FF and I have been caught out before. I can see the login boxes when using IE so now I just need to figure out why it does not show in FF????
Not out of the woods yet. Now I need to test that by "removing" the menu link on the frontpage that I can still access it. Will tell the cleint to use IE in the meantime.

Cheers,

JL
