Hi All

I am looking at building a site for a pro photographer and one of his requirements is to allow restricted access to an article for only one customer via password. This means no one else can view them.
How do you create an article and set it up with only one password access and stopping other members from accessing the page (article)?

Thanks

Brendon

I think it can be done - depends a bit on what you exactly mean - is there only ever going to be one person accessing one page or several people accessing several different pages ?

I'm not sure whether there is an extension for this - but it would be worth a look - there used to be an access control extension

For the former you'd just give the person registered access and set the access level of the page/content. You may be able to create a work around for the latter with ht.access or probably with a database program like LQM (logos query manager - by setting up a database and restricting access based on joomla user id, etc).

Also how sensitive is the information? Does the customer have a fixed ip address? Often when you flesh out the details, an answer appears.

Might be difficult but should be possible - let's see what others have to say.

Hi

There will be several people accessing several different pages, but I will need to restrict access to alll pages and basically have a different password per page (I than give customer X the password and link to their applicable page)
If they attempted to use their password on another page it would not work because the password is wrong.

The information is not sensitive as it's just images, it's more for the customers piece of mind that their images are not shown public and that only they have access to their own images via password.

Thanks

Brendon

OK - you might also be able to use javascript to password protect individual pages, also. I wonder if there's an easier solution.

not sure if there is a component .. have not looked ..

if you were going to create a solution then ...

if the file is addressable via the web server, (ie cut and paste image url and this is matching to a real file) then you will need to use something like htacess to password protect the file.

if you have it in a directory out side the main web site, or in the database then you can get php to output the file only when the user has a cookie with the password in it, which they get from answering a password.

you have to make sure that the person can not just use the image link to get the image. The last thing you want is for the image to get indexed by google and end up in google images.

On my travels, found a plugin that I think will solve your problem.

extensions.joomla.org/extensions/5673/details

& re your other recent query - - you may like to look at
jHideX

Let me know how it goes.

Good solution. I tired a similar solution recently and couldn't get it to work, so I'm keen to hear of this one.
