G'day there.

I've got my Joomla site up and running, installed Joomlapack and attempted to backup the site.

I can't see anything that looks like the database among the downloaded backup files. Should it be a file with the name of my database? Or, should I expect to see it?

I've used the default output directory which I understand to be not the best practice.

Thanks,
Laurie.

Why do you need to find the database within the joomlapack file? You shouldn't need to pull it out for any reason.

I've used Joomlapack and when I recreated the site (on a different host server) everything just recreated, database and all, just as it was when I 'packed' it up from the original site.

if you want a separate database backup file you should go into your website host control panel and access phpmyadmin and export the database from there.

Yes, that is correct.
Although Joomlapack also does a database-only backup.

Thanks for that. Makes good sense.

It's just that I'm pretty unsure about all this. Never done a database backup before. Just wanted to see it so I could be sure of success. Seeing is believing, ya know.

I'm not confident about the permissions issues. Also, the host has made a couple of changes to the Apachie server to accommodate Joomla. I just don't know if everything is right yet.

In the past I've used WP and hand coded html and php sites, and have installed with Fantastico. This is a whole new world for me.

Thanks.
