Hey all,

I've been spending a lot of time ion the JED lately as I've uploaded a few plugins on there. I've also found quite a few new ones that are note worth.

This one here just got updated.

Australian Language Pack for Joomla, front end and backend.
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/languag...ons-for-joomla/10621

Its an English Australian Joomla! Accredited language Pack which includes Site, Administrator and XML install files.

It also rectifies a Bing search engine region issue which sets Australian Joomla 1.5.x websites in the Great Britain region. So SEO improvements there too for Bing. The pack will change your region from en-GB to en-AU in your meta header which Bing uses to determine your region code.

Bloody awesome

Updated the files last night. Unfortunately somehow it missed the original installation release for 1.5.16 due to miscommunication (ironic yes?).

Anyhow the only difference between the 1.5.15 language pack and the 1.5.16 language pack is the inclusion of a missing ini string which most translations were missing from version 1.5.7. Doesn't effect the pack itself.

Changes from 1.5.15 to 1.5.16.

Added missing ini string to en_AU.ini

VALIDNAME=Please enter a database name

Apart from the above, only release date and version number changes.

1.5.16 Language pack has been included for next release upon installation should there be a 1.5.17 release. Otherwise there will be an entire re-write more than likely for 1.6 version.

Cheers and Happy Anzac day.

It's a great extension. Been using it on my sites for some time, although I do question time spent on worrying about SEO for Bing..

Cheers,

G'day Ric,

Likewise regarding Bing. Google is the main Search Engine without question.

I've read that Bing and Yahoo are joining forces and approval has been granted for this to happen in Australia. Just what will come of this who knows. Maybe they can be of more use in the future. Bing in general accounts for a fraction of traffic to my site but every little bit helps.

The language pack is really only for those that are targetting Aussie markets and wish to be optimal for Bing as well as Yahoo and Google. The pack is irrelevant with regards to Yahoo and Google as they geo code by different methods.

It doesnt surprise me that Bing (Aka Microsoft) use their method as it is common to geo code via the software with microsoft products. IE: When installing windows you are given the option of choosing English (Australia) etc.

Still it doesnt hurt and Bing does send some traffic albiet small. If Bing ever pulls its finger out and downloads the internet like google at least with this pack we are well placed. Waiting for Bing to re-geo code a large site that is using the en-GB region code will take a long time for Bing to re-index. Best be prepared now rather than later.

BTW with regards to release of Joomla 1.5.16 users are urged not to use the latest release due to issues. Standby for a very quick release of 1.5.17 addressing these issues. There will be an en-AU update release after the offical 1.5.17 release with minor changes. The en-AU pack is un affected.

Cheers

P.S. Over the last month I have noticed a huge increase of bot activity (5x that of google) from both Yahoo and Bing so you never know

The en-AU 1.5.18 pack has been released.

Please note if you have already installed the en-AU lang pack version 1.5.17 there is no need to upgrade to the en-AU 1.5.18 pack as there are no language string changes from 1.5.17 to 1.5.18.

The only change is to the revision of the pack to reflect the latest Joomla! version.

Joomla! 1.5.20 has been released and I will be updating the EN-AU Language pack. Please note there are no new language strings. The only change to the language pack will be the version number only. So no need to upgrade your language packs.

Cheers.

Hi makinsenoaji, Thank you.

The Aussie language pack was designed to be transparent regardless of components, modules, and any 3rd party programmes including Joomfish. No issues with Joomfish are known to date.

So it should be fine.

After a full night of bleary eyes and 50 cups of coffee the English (Australia) Language pack for Joomla! 1.6 has been released this morning. I have submitted it to the JED but this will take some time for approval.

In the meantime if you wish to get your hands on the pack you can download it directly from the JoomlaCode projects downloads.

You can download from here

joomlacode.org/gf/project/jtranslation1_...;frs_package_id=5651

As this is the initial 1.6.0 release please report any bugs ASAP.

This update and language pack wasn't in the distribution of Joomla 1.6 when it went live?

No. Translators are not allowed to release language packs until after the official release of each version. This especially includes the initial release.

Only the installation files are released prior to any official release. Hence why you could choose English (Australia) during the initial install but need to install any language packs thereafter.

Sometimes we are given changes prior to updated versions but usually we have to work with the released version after the fact.

Good on you guys for doing this language pack.

Whilst Bing might be only 13% of the market share for search engines, it's well worth this update to be effectively targeting 100% of the possible search engine traffic rather than only 87%.

Once again, a big thanks.

Very shortly I will release the 1.6.1 Aussie language pack (probably tomorrow sometime). There are a lot of language string changes between 1.6.0 and 1.6.1. It is highly recommended that 1.6.0 users stick to the 1.6.0 language pack and those that have upgraded to 1.6.1 use the 1.6.1 language pack when released.

Will post here as soon as packs are finished. As always you guys n gals will be the first to know.

Cheers
