I have a Joomla site set up as several category blogs.

As it stands there are nine separate feeds which is fine in some respects but not really what I want.

Is it possible to have a composite feed?

I do have the Latest News module on the home page that gives the latest half a dozen posts from the entire site. Can this be used? Maybe another module?

Maybe you'll tell me that I've missed something basic and got the site set up all wrong.

Thanks,
Laurie.

G'day there.

Not surprised that I haven't got an answer to this, given the major hassles with the JUG site.

I've worked through some of my stuff. Set the site up differently with a front page blog. That gives me the rss feed that I need.

Created a bit of a mess with the sections and categories but will sort that out with enough time and effort.

Thanks,
Laurie.

Hi Laurie - Long time No Spk

Ah! But I've been around, though! Really enjoyed the thread about creating a forum. A very popular post, indeed!

Read it all several times and followed all the links. Really enjoyed Rick's Bush Poetry forum.

Got the general feel for how it works, but decided to give it a miss for now.

On my own site, I have a bit of a mess with articles repeating where they shouldn't. I think I need to learn about Alias for the menu. Either that or else get rid of the Category blog setup. I guess I've duplicated it somewhere. Dunno!

Now here's a funny little thing. At least I've had a chuckle over it.

This Joomla is alright for SEO, huh!

I have a local news site that doesn't amount to much. My competition is the local paper, owned by a big company.

I was getting up quite well in the rankings till, all of a sudden, the other site jumped up with many pages in front of me. I was quite impressed to think a BIG company sees me as a threat to be dealt with. Wonder what it cost them.

So yesterday I changed the site name a little. Right to the top today, for all the town news terms! Wonder how long before they respond again. Chuckle, chuckle.

Best wishes.

G'day Laurie,

Sorry I didn't see this post before. Dex's reply just came through on my RSS reader and I've been known to get a bit behind and delete a few days at times..

Personally, I am not in favour of Joomla sites having the front page as a blog. Your index page is probably the most important one in your site as it sets the tone and should be keyword rich. Turning it into a blog can result in dilution of your keywords as different blog posts focus on different aspects. This is not necessarily always the case, but certainly one to watch with blog posts going to the front page.

Depending on the keywords you are chasing, ranking on the front page can be extremely easy of course. Given that you are doing this in a sub-domain shows very good results.

Have you set up a Google webmasters account? You should certainly do so if you haven't as you have a .net domain. In webmaster setup, you can point this domain at the Australian market which can help your local rankings as well.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Ric

P.S. SEO is like football. Everyone views the game differently and no-body is necessarily right or wrong!

Thanks Dex. Pleased to see you back after a hectic time away!

You don't owe me anything, of course. I'm pleased to get any help that comes my way.

Been struggling along with some help for a full year now, learning Joomla. And they told me it's easy. Bah!

Thanks Rick.

Yes, I have webmaster's and have geo-located my sites. Didn't know much when I first got the .net domain. Cheaper, ya know.

I do understand what you're saying about the dynamic blog content on the home page. I've changed two sites to this set-up over the past few days. I did note the word dilute, so I'll have to keep that in mind.

I have a bit of static, keyword rich content thrown about in the sidebars, description and other places. Hope this will do the job.

I'm counting on the frequently updated dynamic content giving better indexing: sitemap, ping, MBL. That's why I was keen to get the feed working better.

Thanks.
