Hi joomla people, what program is good for crunching a mov or avi to a flv ?
when i use sorrenson squeeze , it seems to make the file a text/generic file in my file manager/videos in my cpanel.. of course then when i add the file on my article page and apply , it only gives me a white screen on my web page... pls help if you can

For a converter you might look at:
www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-V...-Flash-Converter.htm

I wonder in passing what you are using to include the video in your article? Referencing the FLV directly will not work...you will need something like this:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/812/details
to play the FLV

check your joomla and extension versions for compatability. may also be an editor issue - which one are you using?

you can see the joomla version at top right of your administrator screen.
for versions of everything else, go to Extensions > install and click on, e.g. components

you may have to visit the support forum of allvideosreloaded to check for version clashes

in installer > plugins ( and installer > components for some editors) you can see installed editor versions then check those forums.

keeping things up to date usually eradicates version clash problems. be cautious before upgrading joomla to a fresh version with 'older' extensions

Hi there

Not really. There are some sites that release bundled installables, but these are often template clubs bundling their own/partners' extensions.

Otherwise the distributor of the bundle would have to
(a) know which extensions you wanted bundled; and
(b) be the author of all the software, or have deals with all the authors

There are 3000-5000 joomla extensions, so that might be tricky!
It would be great if it could be done though...

What the rest of us probably do is jkust install what we need, keep an eye on all the developers for updates and load them when we find them. Occasionally this backfires in compatability issues. I dont think there's an easier road.

Joomla 1.5 and 1.6 are improving in this regard, as they begin to use pull technology to auto-upgrade extensions.

sorry dex but you might be able to help... i'm try to insert photos to an article and the text is just jumping down and around the photo. i want place the photo then have the text at the side of the photo ... what plugin should i use... i've looked at all the plugins , but i don't want a slideshow or pop ups, i just want the photo to sit there and the text to run down the side. any suggestions .. my image button at the bottom of the articles page doesn't seem to work since i installed allvideosreloaded,,, i think when i changed the path, it upset the image displayer.

yep in the image editor you can align="left" or "right" which will wrap text around. you will also need to set the space around the image to about 10px to get a gap between the text and the image - depends on which editor you are using how you do this
