Does anybody know how to unzip a file (eg Joomla install) on remote server through ftp or a browser?

I am hosting with a company that doesn't have ssh. Unzipping Joomla on local machine and ftping all files to server takes ages and often gets interrupted...

PHP script may be an option.
How do normally do it?

Thanks, Matthias

If your hosting company runs CPanel, the file manager therein can upload and unzip your install file. If not I dont know, but I will be interested to hear the answer! Maybe there are FTP progs out there that can unzip?

My host doesn't have cpanel but an interface called connection. Same functionality.
How easy it was with file manager!!! Had a 1.5 manual install up in a few minutes only. That's fun.
Thanks for the tip.

Got to say I was daunted by 1.5 upload but my host www.siteground.com has an Ajax based file manager in their Cpanel. I uploaded via FTP, browsed to the file, selected and hit EXTRACT..took 15 seconds and I was done

gotta love siteground

That's great to know, Mark. Sounds similar to Godaddy. Do you think you can make it to our next JMUG meeting on Feb 20 to show off SiteGround's features?
