Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out how to "hide" the sub dir from the URL that contains the Joomla install. I don't expect it's a Joomla function, more likely a cpanel/html solution, but happy to be proved wrong.

As an example - joomla is installed in www.mydomain.com/dev - to keep a copy for future testing, I copy the whole structure to www.mydomain.com/prod. Now /prod is my production site but of course I don't want /prod in the URL - is there a way to hide it ?

Or is the standard practice to use the root dir for your prod version ?

Cheers

Hi MArtin

The simplest thing to do is go to the file manager in cpanel and move the contents of the 'prod' directory up a level. you can leave your test install there - it wont hurt.

and yes, standard practice would be to either use root for joomla or put on a subdomain style redirection to the subdirectory (e.g. if you are running two instances of joomla).

you can fix in other ways, but that's the cleanest

hope this helps

Hi Dex,

Thanks for the response - can you elaborate further on your comment "put on a subdomain style redirection to the subdirectory " ?

Cheers

Martin

In cpanel you can create a subdomain e.g. joomla.mydomain.com.au that will point to (by default) folder 'joomla' altho you could change this to 'prod'.

but then to access your site you'd have to actually use the subdomain joomla.mydomain.com.au. Although you could additionally or alternatively put in a hosting redirect at the top level to the 'prod' folder - look in the domain section of your cpanel for this one.

by far the neatest way though is to actually push your prod folder contents up to the top level and not need to mess around. I would say.

Barring moving to the root, couldn't you just write the redirect into the htaccess?
