Just wondering if anyone knows of an extension that would allow a website visitor to type in their postcode (in Australia) and get a listing of nearby stores that are within a certain distance of their location?

I've been searching the maps related extensions and am not finding anything like this. Its something that I see on websites all the time (no idea if they're Joomla) for retail based stores.

If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Cheers,
Jen

Not sure how I missed this but I just found this extension in the JED:

extensions.joomla.org/extensions/externa...ts/maps/9068/details

It looks fairly new so I'm going to give it a try but if anyone else knows of another way to do what I need I'd be keen to hear it!

I use Sobi2 for stuff like that. It will cost you a fair bit for the map and the postcode search.

I have it implemented on a few of my sites.

Let me know if you want to see them.

Thanks for that buipy001. I wasn't aware SOBI2 could so that so I think its probably what I'm going to use. I would love to see your sites that you've already used it on if I can? And what type of costs are you talking about to get it up and running (and how long as well, if say you're putting 50 stores into it)?

Dex, I emailed the Webmap people enquiring into the configuration of the component, specifically I noticed on the examples sites where they've used it, the full listing of stores / sites comes up as a long list and sometimes carries on quite a way down the page.

Their response was: "You can limit the number of results that show up on the left, and if there are more than the max number of listings it displays a "More results" link. Currently we have no way of disabling the listings, or using a manual list."

You can see what he means here - http://demo.webmapplus.com/. Personally I don't like the look of it as I want users to be able to see a full listing of stores under the map area and it doesn't sound like I can disable the listing as part of the component.

Hey Jen,

It's Peter by the way.

Here is one: www.austconserv.com. I'm not sure if I placed the postcode search in that one.

There is also another one but the site hasn't launched yet. Should be online on Friday and I can post the link then.

You can import all the entries via CSV file. It does cost more for the import/export features.

But I love Sobi2.

It should take you about 10-15 minutes per entry unless you have all the data ready to enter or in the spreadsheet for import.
