Hi

I have a particular problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with.

I have a WAMP 2 server with a couple of joomla sites on. It is running on localhost:8080 so that it does not interfere with another service that is using localhost port 80. This others service has its own PHP and MySQL. All these sit own a VM server. The joomla sites need to accessed by various users over the Lan/Wan spread across various sites in Sydney. It has been decided that not all these users (for security issues) should have
VNC and remote desktop access to VM desktop and so they can not access the localhost:8080 browser. It has been decided that maybe the simplest way to go would be to put these sites on the INTRANET with IIS. My questions would be the following

Do I need to load PHP and MySQL again or can IIS use the existing WAMP2 setup.?
Can IIS work with localhost:8080?
Is there a much simpler and cleverer way to go ?

Really sorry to set this task as my first post. If there is someone who can help or discuss please get in touch

Regards

Danny

Danny
I have also posted your query on the main Joomla forum here:

Hopefully that will help - again sorry for the offputting spam.

Cheers Dex

Thanks for all that. I did look up this spammers profile after I replied to him and the penny dropped once I'd seen it had replied to other posts in a similar vein.

Re my problem if you know of anyone that might be worth talking to that would be great. Can you delete my reply stands out a bit now !!!!!!!

Yes of course, all gone
if you get writers remorse, you can edit your own posts for 15 minutes afterwards!

Let's see if we can get the wider Joomla community to comment on your sitch- fingers crossed.

Also will fwd your post to Nicholas who's very clever with such things...

IIS can work with PHP and mysql .. actually IIS talks to php which in turns talks to Mysql so IIS is not directly talking to this server.

Couple of options spring to my mind, get IIS to be able to use php, here is some pages I googled:
www.php.net/manual/en/install.windows.iis.php
blogs.iis.net/bills/archive/2006/09/19/H..._2800_RC1_2900_.aspx

maybe one of those will help

the other option is to run apache on the machine. Both apache and IIS can listen to port 80 if they are bound to different IP's so if that machine can have multiple IP's then you can go to apache on one IP and IIS on a different one. or use different ports as your doing now.

for my testing I have defined in the host file
127.0.0.1 local.testsite1.com
127.0.0.2 local.testsite2.com
127.0.0.3 local.testsite3.com

I am running 3 different copies of apache each bound to a different local address so I can go to the chosen version of apache based on the dns entry.

another link talking about IIS and apache both on port 80
