As a newbie to this forum, I was wondering if you could share your experiences of the User Group meetings around the country with me a little...

I work for a Datacentre just outside Melbourne called Micron21, and I'd like to sus out how beneficial attending such meetings are

Well you are lucky - the Melbourne crew are very active and supportive - I'm sure you'll have a great time with them.

Usually the meetings are about learning/sharing on a particular Joomla-related topic, as well as about meeting people, asking and answering questions.

I reckon the meetings are great for networking, sharing ideas, receiving accumulated wisdom, learning new tricks and just feeling like you are not alone out there, working with Joomla.

Sarah it is worth popping along to a Melbourne meeting to see if it is for you. I have found the two I have been to incredibly valuable. Terrific group of people these Joomlaites.

Hi Sarah, The next meeting will be the forth I have been to. Before discovering MJUG I didn't know anyone else who does what I do. Meeting this bunch of people has been fantastic on a social, educational and supportive basis. I recommend coming along. Look forward to seeing you on the 22nd.

This was my first meeting. I was a little late so I didn't get any introductions and I sat and watched and listened for a while.
The discussion was about Jom_Social and other similar applications such as Community Builder, Fireboard Forums and similar applications. There was some discussion about what exactly a community is.
There was a lot of stuff that seem off the topic but otherwise it was lively and provided some good tips.
The pizza wasn't much chop though.

Ok... bring own source of nibbles, lol.

We'll be happy if we walk away with some new contacts, if nothing else. We hope this community will be an invaluable source for networking, and learning the ins and outs of the Joomla product.

I had a very nice e-mail volley with a chap from Micron21 last year. We texted each other about issues for a few days. Seem like a good bunch of people. I'm looking forward to face-mailing.

Not sure which meeting you were at - but I 'm guessing that, if it was ours, we would gladly accept you to be either or both of the pizza organizer or the facilitator of a certain topic, on session.

So help us improve - we would love that. Just give us (or the local group you attended) a yell and tell us what you would like to contribute to .... & thanks for that
