Hi Everyone,

Me the absolute beginner again, and I have a few queries.

I have managed to create a blog style front page which scrolls down, but it has the Joomla logo at the top which I would prefer to hide. Any clues?

Also - if I request www.mywebsite.com.au I just get:

Index page
cgi
joomla

- if I request www.mywebsite.com.au/index.html I just get:

Oops this page appears broken

If I click on joomla my web page appears

If I request www.mywebpage.com.au/joomla I get my page.

Seems llike I have things in the wrong folders.

Can some one help me how to view my page from www.mywebpage.com.au

Also can someone recommend the best free online pdf Joomla guide.

Thanks

Woa Mate, woa! Steady up a bit!

I don't think you've got the folders wrong. Seems like you're just using the wrong URLs.

If your site is www.mywebpage.com.au , then put that in the address bar and go to it. Simple as that!

Your admin page will be www.mywebpage.com.au/administrator/

There are heaps of great resources on the Joomla documentation site: docs.joomla.org/

Have a look at this bloke: www.facebook.com/JoomlaTutorial Heaps of great free stuff, right where you're at, plus paid stuff on two levels. Free weekly newsletter.

Do a Google or You Tube search on "Joomla whatever you want to know".

That should keep ya busy till tomorrow night at least.

Mate, I've just read your post again.

If you're getting your site at www.mywebpage.com.au/joomla it's because you've installed in the folder public-html/joomla instead of public-html (or whatever your root is) The root could be /

Don't know how you uploaded/installed the site. You may have FTPd the folder that Joomla is in, called joomla. You should have opened that folder and uploaded the contents.

You don't need to tell me how difficult it is when you're new to Joomla and don't understand the terms. I spent six weeks of my life learning the basics of Joomla. Average 100 hours a week in front of the computer. 5.00am till after midnight, most days.

Thanks mate, I do still have the problem and Joomla was installed in the www.mywebsite.com.au/joomla folder by an auto installer via CPanel provided by my hosting site. I really hope I can move it and that I dont have to uninstall and reinstall as I have done a bit of work on my pages.

Do you know? If I just copy everything within Joomla back a level, is it OK that it overwrites anything that is there at the moment?

First thing is to make a copy and paste backup of your content in Notepad as a .txt file.

cPanel and Fantastico? You may have told it to create the joomla folder. Not hard to make such a mistake.

I doubt that you'll be able to move the installation.

Seems to me that a good way forward for you would be to keep the site where it is for the time being and learn a bit about Joomla before you get serious about the site. When you've got a handle on Joomla, uninstall and reinstall in the root directory.

Yes I expect I did accept the default folder of /joomla, and oh dear it is a re-install, yes I do have my text backed up in notepad, I'm just unsure that I'll remember all the settings that I've altered .... still that's the learning curve I'm on huh! Thanks for your help.

Yes you can copy back a level. You will then need to edit the configuration.php file (which will now be in your root folder) and remove the sublevel folder from the logs and tmp file paths.

you can use akeeba backup component to move your site to anywhere.

Install akeebabackup component

take a back up of your site using component

download your backup

get kickstart.php file from akeeba site.

upload backup and kickstart.php file to location where you want to reinstall the joomla (in your case it will be root public_html)

go to your site www.mywebsite.com.au/kickstart.php and than follow the instrction(Somewhat similar to joomla installation)

once everything is done you can see the same copy of your backedup website but at new location.

Let me know if you have any troubles.

Cheers,
Nikunj
