Hi guys, nice to find an Aussie Joomla community.

I noticed you are using Kunena, can I ask how you are finding it? Are there any known problems with it?

Looking for a native forum option, and narrowed it down to choose between Agora and Kunena.

I am keen to make the right choice the first time, and not have to go back and re-implement another system... like I've done with so many Mods, Components and Plugins.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Hi Julian,

I know that Kunena can have serious problems with spam - the first Kunena forum I setup was flooded with spam instantly.

This forum seems to have been spared the worst of those attacks - can anyone share some tricks on how to avoid spam in Kunena?

On another note, I personally recommend CCboard as a good native Joomla forum. It does have a few minor bugs, but answers to these are readily available from their forum.

Hi ecweb,

Thanks for your reply, I wasn't aware of spam in Kunena.

It's been a while since I looked at CC, and at the time it was very under-developed - which left me leaving it on the shelf to mature a while longer. I will have to take another look.

The main concern I have with native forums is having trust in their ongoing development - don't want to be left with an unusable and un-exportable forum in a year or two.

Which has led me to consider Kunena and Agora as the choices with the best ongoing support systems.

Will give it some more thought, and play with these 3 options a bit longer.

Thanks again

I use Kunena on a number of my sites, though none of them extremely active. I have not had any spam problems - possibly due to my settings which require a poster to be a registered user.

I have not used Agora so cannot really compare.

The only negative I have with Kunena is the inability to subscribe to a forum category as a whole rather than just a a thread within it. I understand that this functionality has been added in the latest version that is currently in beta.

So based on my experience I would recommend Kunena.

I also set Kunene to require posters to be registered users.
But I ended up getting a flood of spam registrations - and then spam posts on my site.
I guess one needs to have a good spam-proof registration form - does anyone have any recommendations?

Sure I use alpharegistrations which incorporates recaptcha. Does the job for me and looks great too.
