Hi fellow Joomla users.
I am new to Joomla and wondering if there are any training course's in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne. I am looking for somthing like a 1-2 day course and start from the basics tp avoid any bad habbits.

I do have a joomla book that I am reading but as always the prtical side of learning is always the best.

Any one's help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Brendon

Hi Brendon

Dont know anyone who's running courses, actually. A lot of people are asking.
I train my clients in the basics. I'm in Sydney.

I may be interested as well.

We have an established Joomla site at work but it hasnt come with a training manual. Was put together by people off site a couple of years ago. The SEARCH window doesnt even appear on the front page even though it is published. Wouldnt mind being able to troubleshoot the site we have.

Deedee, the search functionality on Joomla is provided trough what we call a module, on this case mod_search.

A module on Joomla is a type of extension that displays information or add functionality to a specific position in you Joomla site (left navigation, top banner, footer, etc).

To configure your module you will need to check you module parameters as a Administrator on you Joomla web site Administrator console (Back end).

There are many reasons your module might not be working properly:

Eg: Wrong template position, Bad menu assignment, etc

Each case is one case, so a closer investigation might solve your issue!

Hope have helped!

Cheers!
Jose.

There are several good books about Joomla. Here is a short selection:
  1. Using Joomla by Ron Severdia & Kenneth Crowder (with foreword by Louis Landry), O'Reilly, 2010
  2. Beginning Joomla: From Novice to Professional by Dan Rahmel, Apress, 2007
  3. Beginning Joomla! Web Site Development (Wrox Programmer to Programmer) by Cory Webb, Wrox, 2009
  4. Joomla! A User's Guide: Building a Successful Joomla! Powered Website by Barrie M. North, Prentice Hall, 2008
Does this help?

It would be good (assuming there is a market for it) for some of the big training houses to develop courses for Joomla beginners.
If you think I'm wrong then say "I think you're wrong". If you say "you're wrong" how do you know?

I think dex's question is for MCwhore. I live in Canberra but I don't think that's what dex wanted to know.
