Hi all
My new site has finally launched. It's an online mag/portal for alternative, progressive articles. It went live yesterday BUT it seems there are problems with it working in Internet Explorer, especially 7 and 8 (it works fine in Firefox).
The lovely Audra has been helping me and she's trying to figure it out but suggested I also post here in case anyone else has had any problems and might be able to offer advice.
The site is at
www.thescavenger.net
I am using JA Teline III template, which is quite fancy and complicated (I think!) although it does look rather lovely.
I have JomComment enabled.
I have Tweet This enabled
I have JTweet enabled
Plus some custom modules I created (with Audra's help).
I noticed last week when uploading articles that when I previewed and went back to home page, the page was not refreshing properly in that the modules on the right-hand side (including main menu, subscribe) were not appearing. If I pressed 'refresh' they would generally appear.
Two days ago I added a Facebook Fans module and when I did preview it crashed IE and I got a box saying 'internet explorer can't open the page, operation aborted'. So I disabled Facebook Fans and created a custom module.
When using IE7 or 8, whenever you try to navigate the site, ie using the back button or even just clicking around the site, I get the same aborting error.
On my IE8 at home I cleared all the cookies, temp files etc to see if that helped. It initially appeared to, then failed again. On my partner's computer also using IE8 the same thing happened (cleared cache, still happened). On the computer I'm at today at a magazine publisher using IE7 - exactly the same thing.
Everything seems to be fine on Firefox, so it seems to be an IE thing (damn Microsoft, ha ha!).
Has anyone got ANY suggestions for me (and Audra) or had any experience with these problems? It's a bit of a nightmare as I've already started promoting the site.
I'd like to keep JomComment if possible as the Disqus comment facility I have is horrible and there seems to be spam all over it so I disabled it and enabled JomComment (I'm open to using a different comment system as long as it's easy to use and nice if JomComment is the problem - it's a shame as it's a comprehensive comment module).
Also, not sure if this has anything to do with it, but Audra noticed that when you click on articles, you seem to be routing through to some strange sites like intensedebate.com and i4yimg (or something) and also apitweetme (these can be seen bottom right in the grey are of the screen but only appear momentarily - blink and you'll miss them!) These may be ok, but not sure (hope I haven't been hacked).
Finally I also have a problem with search-engine-friendly URLS - if I turn this on, some of my menus go to 'error 404 pages not found'. I'm concerned that if my URLs are not SEF, the articles and site won't get picked up on Google and other search engines. This is a secondary issue though, my main problem is fixing the IE issues.
Thank you in advance for your help
Katrina
