Looking to attend the next Sydney JUG meeting mid September, which will be my first foray.
I have completely moved my old site across from HTML to Joomla and have received some very positive feedback from others who have an interest in customs insignia (site is
www.customscollector.com)
I have several questions that I hope others here may have already had some experience / exposure to and may be able to provide some advice / insight.
1. Having recently read about the security updates, suggesting upgrading to Joomla 1.5.20, my simple question is this - to do the upgrade, do you simply install over the top of your current installation?
2. What is the general consensus on Community Builder and it's extensions? Including such things as CB subs? Is it a worthwhile upgrade?
3. One downside to putting a site such together is, ironically enough, counterfeiters have a ready encyclopedia of insignia to counterfeit and attempt to sell via eBay. I'm currently using JCE for page design / content creation / thumbnail creation / image presentation. What I'd like to know is, is it possible to find a Joomla component / module that would only show black and white images on the public site and normal full colored images to logged in visitors? (one option to thwart counterfeiters, another might be to include a watermark in each image) Suggestions?
4. Another option I'd like to find out more about is how can I disable the right click / save as option for images displayed in Lightbox - does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations or hacks, etc.?
5. Any suggestions about an appropriate eCommerce option that might integrate with Community Builder? I'm considering creating a small eCommerce site within the registered part of my site to allow members to auction items?
