Hello!

Just as I was happy with a Siteground template for my new online site (magazine), I'm now having a panic and think it looks a bit too basic and amateur.

I found a couple of templates by Joomlart (I think you have to pay, but I don't mind if it's a good template that works well) and wondered if anyone can advise on whether JA templates are reputable, easy to use and work well?

My first choice is this one: JA Teline II, www.joomlart.com/templates_club/club_por...io/ja_teline_ii.html
www.joomlart.com/templates_demo.php?template=ja_teline_ii
But it was uploaded over a year ago and says it's in 'ongoing development', so not sure if it's ready to use as it doesn't sound like it's been launched yet.

My second choice is JA Nickel www.joomlart.com/templates_club/club_portfolio/ja_nickel.html
I presume you can move the modules around, so for example, I don't have to have that big slideshow at the top, I can uncheck it and simply have the body copy in its place? And same for the JA Teline II if it works - I can move modules around?

Thanks in advance for your advice

Katrina

Yep, JA templates are top notch.

I'm always wary of picking a template from last year, but I see they are adding features to Teline. I'd use it.

Nickel is a stronger bet being more recent though. I try to pick templates that are 6 months old or less, where possible.

Yes, you can switch all your module positions on and off, and move features between module positions. You can remove the slideshow by unpublishing its module.

This applies to all templates

Thanks for your reply Dex. I bit the bullet and joined the templates and extensions club and downloaded 3 JA templates: Teline II, Nickel and Rutile. I don't like Nickel after all. The others look good in the advert but you have to know how to use the component JA News.

I've downloaded and installed it but the documentation for how to use it may as well be written in Double Dutch as it makes no sense at all. There's nothing intuitive about it and I can't get it to work. It looks like I'd need a whole separate training on just this component. It's a shame as it does look like it could make a site look good, but I think it's for advanced users, not newbies like me!

Oh dear, I've messed it all up. I went back to my regular simple template but in the menu it says JA News. I unenabled the component JA News but the menu item still remained. So I tried to uninstall JA News but got an error saying a couple of files could not be uninstalled (eml files?). I still couldn't remove it from the menu on the left.

So I tried to reinstall JA News and got the following error message:

JInstaller::install: There is already a folder called '/home/thescave/public_html/language/en-GB/en-GB.com_janews.ini'. Please initially check whether:
• the Extension is already installed
• the file names in the XML file are spelled correctly
• there are no XML files listed inside the extension.xml file
• all of the files (not including XML files) are correctly listed in the extension.xml file and there are no duplicate entries
• there is an empty folder listed from a previous installation attempt

Can someone please help me? I just want to get rid of JA News altogether, especially off the menu on my simple template. I shouldn't have messed with JA News, it's way beyond my capabilities, I just want to go back to my nice, simple red Siteground template without any reference to JA News.

Thanks

Me again. Just got message from Joomlart saying:

Our upcoming template JA Teline III (following JA Teline and JA Teline II) is scheduled to be released within this week. This version comes along with new features(i.e. revamped JA News module with drag and drop feature, weather and stock widget and many more...)

I'm torn. It all sounds lovely but in reality it's so tricky. If they have a new Teline III template maybe the universe is telling me to use it but at the moment my system is a mess. What do I do?

Ok Katrina, sounds like you've got yourself in a pickle, but quick to fix if your site is online now. PM me.

Or bring your laptop with Teline III on it next week to the user group mtg and we can bail you out!

To get rid of a menu item you can unpublish or just delete it in Menu Manager > Mainmenu.

Once you've got stuck with half a component installed, its easiest to use a file manager (e.g. NinjaXplorer) or FTP to just delete all the mess e.g. components/com_janews and language/en-GB/en-GB.com_janews.ini.
