A few thread breakdown suggestions (that's the problem with having managed other forums - so many ideas)

- Joomla Discussion
- Components
- Modules
- Plugins
- Templates

- User Group Discussion (possibly one for each UG)

- and possibly, (though maybe rename it) a \"Blatent Self Promotion\" area

Anyone else with ideas?

I think 'Blatant Self Promotion' sounds like a good name!

Yes I agree with your list, pretty much, but I wondered if we should wait until we get some volume of posts to split in to other forums. I talked to Matthias about getting a Melb one going, and sure we'd like to have one for any active area. It's just that lots of empty forums make a weird echo...

Happy to wait as topics come online. Assuming it's easy to move posts in fireboard as for other forums.

Happy for you to move my Job Boards post to the blatent self promotion area

Sometimes an empty forum just needs to be written on, and also may need to be there to have lights switch on about topics.

BTW looks like html reserved words (assuming blink is broken in the three smilies to the left) are processed oddly by fireboard. May be as simple as a setting change. Noticed it too when I mentioned iframe in another post.

Yes it's very nice to see you on here! You are most welcome.

The _link_ thing is an anti-hack method. There are some ever-so-secret reserved words that will be afflicted this way. It's to prevent XSS hacks, so they say.

The other thing I'd like to pop on is a forum for our User Group presentation materials. So we can share them. Perhaps you like to contribute your notes after your presentation next week Partic?

Good idea. Happy to contribute the mailing list presentation, as well as future ones I'm considering on...

- Using Community Builder to build a bigger community
- Putting Joomla content onto non-Joomla pages (eg putting your banner ads onto other parts of your site)

I'll be particularly interested in the CB one. We did one in Sydney on using CB to build community - a group discussion on tips and tricks, fave components ..etc. It was quite an energetic mtg! Lots of good ideas and support for those trying to do this....

There were also some very good talks on this general topic at the Web Directions South conference the other week. Their slides are all online at http://www.slideshare.net/search/slideshow?q=wds07&submit=post&commit=Search too, if you care to browse.

An idea - perhaps an addition - to Patrick's self promotion could be a subforum called \"the welcome mat\", where new members can introduce themselves to the community (and self promote, if they want too). Anyway, the idea is to provide new members with a warm welcome and get them into an \"active\" forum mode.
