OK, I more or less have the site that I have been putting together ready on my PC and I am going to transfer it to the live server. I am going to have the account deleted and then readded to get rid of any images, documents, etc, etc and clean it right out. Also the existing Joomla! version is 1.0 and I will of course be updgrading to 1.5.

It is about this time I get worried. I used the akeeba backup as suggested by JLJ but got an error in the backup process.

The site is a sports site and I am hoping to have minimal disruption as a lot of people refer to it.

I found this process which is more of a manual process - anyone tried this? forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=187461

Much appreciated for your help.

The manual method described is the ONLY way I move sites.

I first build my site in wamp. Then copy the mysql database in sql format. I prefer not to use the copy n paste of dump. instead just use the .sql file.

I then copy all the files in the root of the www folder. With one exception, The configuration.php file from the wamp copy is not needed. This is setup for you when you do a new install on your live site. So use the configuration.php file from the new site NOT wamp.

So now you have a database backup and a www folder backup ready to upload.

Then do a generic (Fantastico) Install on the live site, a fresh new joomla install.

Then drop all mysql tables on the new install site.

Import your wamp database sql file.

Then copy up your wamp www folder to your live site public html folder. Keeping in mind configuration.php from wamp is not needed.

Also remember that when creating links and images and content when building your site in wamp to use the internal joomla links. This saves having to redo your menu links, images, content links.

That's pretty much it and it works everytime.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply however I am having an unusual issue at the moment. I deleted and readded the account after many hassles. Anyways now I can't add any artilces, sections, etc. Cant even add a template from the backend. Not sure why as it was working OK the other night. I have emailed my host but if anyone has any hints, please let me know.

I can edit existing articles in the sample data, it just seems that the New button does not work.

Did you use the same version of joomla whilst building your site in wamp as the new site joomla installation version?

IE: Both 1.5.22 or are you using 1.6 ?

Also make sure folder permissions are set to 755 and file permissions are 644.

Sounds like something is not writable.

PHP server versions?

Ask your Host if they are using mod_security. This can also cause a lot of issues for joomla.

I found the solution and one that is simple. I had to clear the cache. As for the transfer, I have had so many hassles with this I am going to just transfer all the HTML and CSS from the working one to the one I have just installed. This is driving me nuts...

Nah don't feel that way. Once you get the hang of it you will be fine. Just keep your cool and be methodical.

Sometimes even after installs if something doesnt overwrite properly then you may need to re-install JCE for example or recheck your settings in admin global configs.

It's all part of the fun and challenge
