I've just launched a site with two templates, all modules are set to appear of different menus snd not on all menu items.

All working well until I added search - now search results appear without any modules showing.
If I set a module to appear against all menus then it appears in correct position when I search but as soon as I deselect one menu item it too dosen't show.
Since modules can't be set to appear when a component is showing I'm at a lost.

The only way I see around this create a new joomla site on a subdomain to handle the second template.
The site is primed.net.au and to see what I mean try primed.net.au/component/search/
Site is using K2 and nearly finished...

Thanks
Ian

one solution would be to code in a secondary list of module positions that are loaded when the component is triggered.

if (get url variable com_search exists){

show searchModulePositions

}

This way you can set the modules for that area to position searchModulePositions and set to ALL menu items but since the if statement is there it will only appear when the component is triggered.

It maybe a bit of doubling up of modules but it will work.

Thanks Peter - just all too difficult as you would have to code for every component affected (including K2) so I decided a quick recreation of the site into a sub-domain (phpadmin is my friend) - the new site will be only for serving videos with lots of different templates for clients.
If anyone reads my previous post and follows the link they won't see the issue but the new site shows it vidcasts.primed.net.au/component/search/

BTW starting to love K2

I think the easiest answer to this is to use an advanced SEF component that only allows one (visual) version of pages etc and spend a little time configuring item ids etc. that way searhc resulst are forced to teh defulat menu item id version ( if you like) of that page
