TOPIC: What is the best solution?

What is the best solution? 3 years, 1 month ago #1315

I have a website to produce in the next couple of weeks that requires a couple of features that I'm not sure of the best way to implement.

Basically there's only going to be about 15 - 20 users on this site initially. The client wants each user to be able to login to their own section which others can't access. In their section they have their own menus and areas where they will be required to complete projects and answer questions.

Is there a specific module I need to get to achieve this? or is it already built into Joomla!

Is this the "User1", "User2", "User3" feature I've seen on various popular templates?

I'm just casting the question around at the moment before diving in at the deep end. I look forward to any advice on this matter.

Regards and thanks in advance,

Keef

Hmm I can't read this post properly (the ad is covering the text - or is it just me?) - but this is not a generic Joomla! feature - you will need to either do a little coding to set this up or perhaps there is an extension that manages users like this - have you had a peruse at extensions.joomla.org

- the user feature you ask about is simply the naming system/convention of module positions as far as I know

This came up at the last MJUG meeting and the suggested solutions were to use Joomsuite User http://www.joomsuite.com or Juga http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/2587/details which gives you that functionality.

JustLoveJoomla it isn't just you... I have the ad obscuring the posts for me too.

Hi JLJ,
Yes, I've been through the extensions section. It's possible that it's waiting there for me somewhere.

Strange though, I wouldn't have thought it was such an obscure function....... but apparently it is.

Oh well.....I'm sure I could do a little work around using subdomains or linking to social networking sites to sort it out.

Thanks for the advice.

cheers,
keef

Hey thanks Goods,
I'll check them out.

Indeed, re; advertising obfuscation, I tend to leave banners or other modules out of space hungry pages like Forum Boards, Galleries or Virtumart stores.

I use JUGA myself - love it. It has two downsides, but you wont come across them with your usage - they are both related to using JUGA to restrict both the site and the administrator. The latest JUGA release is also heaps better than the previous one - very active development.

Thanks Dex,
I've checked out their site. The module/component is rather expensive but probably worth it. I'm not in any rush to do this, so I'll probably have a look around prior to putting my hands in my pockets.

In the meantime, thanks for the tip.

I look foward to catching up with other users at the next group meeting.

Cheers,
