Hi there,
I may have to set up a non profit club website shortly and I will probably need to fast track it and keep the price as low as possible (it will be coming out of my personal pocket (;-> ) and make it as accessible for others as possible.

My html knowledge is weak and I've not played with Dreamweaver for a while, and I don't want to reinvent the wheel, spending weeks stumbling over (for me) unfathomable code, etc.

I'm totally at ground zero with my knowledge of Joomla, but from what i've read, it looks to be the best tool for the job.

I've been in a similar position some time back with another CMS style (business) website and found that although the learning curve was initially steep, the end result was great.

I'm looking for the site to be simple, clean and easy to navigate, as well as easy as possible, for 'certain' members to be able to publish 'regular' information, eg, weekly news, broadcasts information, updates, etc, etc.

I require only the container in ready working order for uploading to a server and I would fill the site with the content.

If you're able to help and we can agree on a 'ball park price', I would then be in a position to send you a design layout from Photoshop files, that will give you a very clear brief/wish list, on what the expectations for the final site might look like and obviously take feedback from you re what works and what doesn't.

This is not a corporate site, but does require the ability to have future expansion if required (which I'm happy to do), once there is a stable container up and running.

Some help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, alvin

PS... i'm in Tas if that's of any use.

Hi Alvin

Hello and welcome.

If you are really doing this on a budget, sign up for web hosting that has cpanel and fantastico and you can self-install Joomla in moments. It has a an auto-installer.

Then go to bestofjoomla.com (or any other source of) free templates and download one and upload it to your server. If you can manage without a custom design...

Just add content....

Maybe you will need a little help to have member-only content published, but also see docs.joomla.org for the help resource...or ask again here.

Hope the sun's shining in Tas

I'd be happy to discuss with you.
It's great to be here....in fact, ...it's great to be anywhere!

Hi Dex and thanks for the welcome.

Yes... i've been looking around and getting a feel of what might be in store for me re a 'free' or cheap Joomla template, but i'm still verrrrry shaky on my code/logic required to be that confident in setting up a 'club' site that others would use.

And my other concern is that the site would have to be rock solid, something that i'm just not up to speed with implementing yet.

So... i'm still looking around for possibly a personalised container to be built for me by someone with more experience, that i can learn to use and tweak. So far i've thankfully had a couple of responses that i will check out, but if you've got any more help or advice, that will be greatly appreciated.

I have registered (last night) my own business domain name and i've signed up to a hosting company (used it before to run a very basic site to sell a house) and i'm going to play with and learn a bit about Joomla, using a free template and use it as a testing site (behind a login screen) for myself initially.

On another note... the weather here in Tas is just beautiful at the moment, but better still... i've got 2 tickets to a Dylan Moran show to enjoy as well (;->
