Hi all

Now that 1.5 is becoming a stable and usable product, with more add-ons available for it, I will be keen to make this site as usable as possible for everyone. That means you! What do you want from it? What features do you wish it had? Do you have anything to contribute?
Please let me know.

Also at some point I will be seeking volunteers for moderator and admin roles on the site.

Happy to help admin/moderate.

Don't know if JEvents or any other calendars are 1.5 ready yet, but in the short term, it might be worth adding an Events forum area for promoting Joomla events around the country.

Actually I've loaded JEvents, which DOES run on 1.5. But I discovered it runs on RC2 not RC3 (yet). Apparently RC3 broke quite a lot of add-ons, so they'll take time to catch up.

Having just re-read and corrected my prodigious number of typos in this post, I wish someone would write a spell-check widget. Maybe someone has?

Having done battle with quite few mailing list components in the last year, and lost to each of them, I'm really wondering why there is no decent Mailing list component in Joomla? I used to use Yanc (oh dear) then I switched to Acajoom (which has given me endless headaches, in partcular 'losing' mailing lists, import/export subscribers and the dreaded email capping) and also I've tried PHPList (Ugly sign up; wouldn't send the whole list).

Now I think the only solution I trust to get the job done is ymlp.com (apart from Outlook Express, which I'm forced to as a last resort)

Please God can someone help me get an open source mailing list working, that handles big mailouts and is easily customisable and has import/export that works.

Offline, I use a program called MailBomber... you would think that a title like that makes it a spammer tool, and you're probably correct. Configured properly, it's easy to send a mailing out - under 10 minutes with a clean list (reminds me, I need to do one of these today). Biggest list to date in this has been 3500 exported from another DB for a single campaign email.

In Joomla, I've had (touch wood) trouble free installs of Acajoom working on 5 sites all year. Acajoom 1.5 has just come out, and it's fixed another few 'feature modifications' (bugs) that take it up to about a 95% fit for my needs. Regular emails on these sites using Acajoom have gone to up to 8000 addresses in a monthly campaign, though most clients currently send to 200 members. Another I'm trying to finish at the moment is going to be sending to 10000+

Were your issues on Joomla 1.5? I need to build an RC3 test server I think now to start working on the transition (as we were discussing at SUG in Sept).

Which version of acajoom were you using? Explain email capping? How do you think the lists became lost?

Perhaps I won't rush my RC3 installation at the moment

Using firefox? Get an Australian Dictionary here

Aside from that, haven't seen a spelling checker for joomla or fireboard yet.

If it's active, then it checks the spelling as you type your post and underlines the words in red. Then right click and it shows you suggestions.

So if you're spelling correctly, you won't notice whether or not it's working.

Actually Partic, that Firefox add-on spell checkerDOES work. I must've been dreaming. Or needed to re-start my browser.
Thx again
