Yes, I've lost the site, both back end and front end.

I do have a backup from just after I migrated from 1.5 to 1.6 and although I'll loose what I did yesterday, it should be OK.

But maybe someone can say the magic word that will fix the site with one small fix.

When I changed from Editor None to Editor TinyMCE I got two messages: one to say that the change was successful and the other to tell me that configuration.php can't be found.

When I closed the screen to add a new article, it went white with the message: No configuration file found and no installation code available. Exiting...

When I went to the front end and refreshed, I got the same.

On investigation, the configuration.php file was blank. Fortunately I had a copy of configuration.php that I made a couple of days ago. But when I upload this it straight away turns to 0 filesize. It's the uploaded file alright with the correct last modified time and date.

Any idea what could be stripping the code from the file?

If there's no easy fix, I think that rather than use the back up file, I'll retain the database and do a complete new job of it. I've had quite a bit of trouble since the migration.

Thanks.

Laurie, have you looked on the Joomla Bug Squad list at groups.google.com/group/joomlabugsquad ?

Thanks Pete. Well, I've looked in the bug report now, but couldn't find anything.

Did a Google search on the error message and found plenty. Seems to have something to do with not renaming configuration-dist.php to configuration.php in 1.5.

I've had so many problems since the upgrade that I don't trust it. I think best to do a clean install and rebuild.

It's only a local news site based on press releases so I can afford to loose it all. That's why I chose this site for a first try with the migration. I'll loose all my cred with Google but I got hit for six anyway with the algorithm update the other day. Looks like I'll have to value add to the press releases if I'm to do any good with Google.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry to hear you've had such drama. I just converted a 1.5 site to 1.6 with a lot less pain. I should post my notes on how i did it, in case they are of any use to anyone.

Thanks Dex!

Well, ya know, it's probably me. I've learned over the years not to blame the software. It can usually be tracked down to my mistake, whether it be css, html, hosting or whatever. I can't even spell right!

I'll be pleased to see your notes.
