Got a Joomla problem? Post as much detail about it as you can here to see if you can get a solution.

Where possible, include URL for the site or page having issues, what version of Joomla you're using, what type of server (eg Cpanel, WAMP, IIS), what components may be installed, and specific error messages you're encountering.

If you think your problem is particularly obscure, you might be better posting it to the forums at joomla.org as there's thousands more people to help you.

Hi all,

slightly off the joomla topic, but I thought that I would throw this query in here for the more technically inclined than myself.

I have a client that has a gmail account.

lets call it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
he had forwarding set up through the gmail account to forward all the mail to another email as well,
lets call it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

We recently shut the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it email down (at client request) and then I went into his gmail account and switched off the forwarding that he had in place.

but still the error messages continue to come through. It looks to me like gmail is trying to forward the email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it but its obviously failing because the email does not exist. The error messages are about 2 - 3 days after the original email is received.

He also uses outlook to check all of his gmail emails. Could there be another forwarding set up in this that causes the following error message?

Im stumped, but admittedly I am hopeless in this area.

Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated.

cheers,

ant...

***THIS IS ONE OF THE ERROR MESSAGES HE RECEIVED 2-3 DAYS AFTER I SENT HIM AN EMAIL. VIA MY REALWORLD EMAIL ADDRESS WHICH SENDS OUT VIA OPTUS.

I'd go back and check the settings in the Gmail account Ant. Sounds like it has retained the forwarding address.

I agree - It is the source that is creating it.

hi guys thanks for the response.
no its definitely switched off..

I just went back and checked, I have included screen shots from the day that I switched it off. (i was covering my ars)

The only thing that I am now thinking is maybe due to the delay in getting the error message that maybe it will stop in the next day or two (that is it could be residue email errors) I switched it off on the 17th of July... hmmm that could well be it???

Hey Ant - I notice that you still have forwarding turned on in the image. Is that for another account or something because if not you could turn it off completely.
Seems strange though as it shouldn't take more than 24 hour to propagate. Not much else I cna think of without digging in.

Hi Shane,

I put the two images in there, first when it was on then the second image shows it switched off.
But yeah its all a bit strange.

i will have to see how it goes.

thanks again for your thoughts.

cheers,

anthony.

Going to firstly assume you've sent additional test emails today and they have arrived in the gmail inbox correctly, thus indicating problems solved?

If not, rather than testing from your real world address, have you tried from your own gmail if you have on, or another webmail service (hotmail etc) to diagnose whether the issue was optus mail exchange related?

Depending on the amount of time between the forwarding being turned off and your testvmessage being send, the cause may simply be that optus connected to a google mail server that might not have had the change replicated to it yet... Gmail uses more than a few servers, and it might be as simple as timing.

Hi Patrick,

Yeah have sent through more tests.
I also have access to his account to check (granted by client of course). So the error messages occur from hotmail, gmail, and domain hosted emails right across the board.

I think that you will be right though with the timing of different servers.
I am hoping that this will be the case.

Again, thanks everyone for your input.

cheers,

anthony.
