Got a Joomla problem? Post as much detail about it as you can here to see if you can get a solution.

Where possible, include URL for the site or page having issues, what version of Joomla you're using, what type of server (eg Cpanel, WAMP, IIS), what components may be installed, and specific error messages you're encountering.

If you think your problem is particularly obscure, you might be better posting it to the forums at joomla.org as there's thousands more people to help you.

virtuemart - listing categories and their underlying products on the one page. 3 months, 1 week ago #5744

Hi all,

sorry accidentally posted this in the wrong forum.. here it is again:

url:

www.richmondoysters.com.au/place-wholesale-order.html

--------

I have a product catalogue that I am working on.

Here is an example of the structure

Category: >> Seafood
Sub Category: >> Oysters
products: >>Large Stnd
>>NSW unopened
>>TAS half shell
Sub Category: >>Scallops
Products: >>Scallop Crumbed
>>Scallop Standard
>>etc.

When I choose the category I currently get the list of sub categories:
Eg:
Clicking Seafood shows:
Oysters
Scallops
Shrimps, etc.

Then I have to click these to get to the product list for one of those subcategory items.

What I want to do is when the user clicks eg: seafood

they see:
Sub category
product
product
product

next sub category
product
product
product

etc...

all on the one category listing page

What is the best way to achieve this?

Cheers,

Difficultly with J1.5 and VM 1.1.18.

Possibly far more easily in J2.5.1 and VM 2.

VM2 is now MVC compatible, so if you were to work out the templating mechanisms (and nothing to stop you trying to work out the templating mechanisms in VM1.1.18) to load the product pages and things, you could do a full shop template override to work it out.

Of course, thinking about it, there's always another way... heavily modified section blog layout template override
- create the whole thing as an article, or section of articles.
- instead of read mores, just make all the text appear in the introtext areas.
- instead of clicking on a category and it going to a new page, the override would open the category using tabs, sliders (nonumber) or some other device to display then the article content.
- section blog layout: eg section seafood
- displays category headers eg oysters fish etc
- clicking on oysters category heading slides out oysters layout

to get the product into an article, use the vm product snapshot plugin - and heavily modify it's template layout too.

Third option is to build the 'catalogue' side in k2, and then link to the product order buttons either using k2mart, or alternatively just using the k2 product snapshot plugin.
