As far as web hosts go, everyone you talk to will have their own favourites.

The official Joomla sites are hosted with Rochen www.rochenhost.com/joomla-hosting

One of the Sydney JUG members Peter recently started offering Joomla hosting

There are many other good hosts, I'm sure some other people will post their recommendations. However be aware that there are also many bad hosts, and picking a good host is the first step in ensuring your Joomla site is secure.
