I am very pleased to be able to confirm that one of the key Drupal-heads in Melbourne, Brian Gilbert, has agreed give a presentation on Drupal to our next meeting - 6:30pm on Wednesday, 27nd July at AMSI, Corner of Monash Rd and Stationary Lane, University of Melbourne.

Brian is the co-ordinator of the Drupal Users Group in Melbourne and to quote his website
. . . has been building websites since 1995, is a Drupal core contributor, and fosters the local Drupal community by organising meet-ups monthly, code sprints throughout the year, and sponsoring Australian Drupal events where possible.
While it's easy to think there's a world of difference between the Joomla & Drupal worlds, the similarities are strong - Open Source, mySQL, PHP, vibrant volunteer participation etc etc. The differences, too, are profound - for instance, the Drupal community has a strong hierarchical structure under which just two(!) people are entrusted to commit core code.

I found it fascinating talking to Brian today, and I'm sure we'll all enjoy hearing what he has to say - come along and make him welcome!

Who knows, maybe Joomla isn't the best solution for every website. (Oooh! Did I say that?)

MJUG Co-ordinator

I was at a client meeting today and noticed in her 'favourites' list a folder called Drupal sites as she had researched both Drupal and Joomla before choosing Joomla (and me!) so that was a funny a coincidence to come home and read this post.

Looking forward to this MJUG session.

Cheers,
Jen

Always good to see what "the other side of the fence" has got or is doing as well.

Must have been the charm and personality Jen - Nothing to do with choice of product ! !

Remember the MJUG meeting next Wednesday.

The coordinator of the Melbourne Drupal User Group, Brian Gilbert, will introduce us to Drupal. Together with Joomla & Wordpress, Drupal is one of the three standout Open Source CMSs.

Come along and see why!
