Yes I would love to be there,

I am also wondering if there is anyone that lives near Pascoe Vale South/ Coburg area that could help me with Joomla 1.5 (Personal Tutor, a real human being)

I have completed a 4 week dreamweaver course a while ago now and have progressed well i believe with website design. I have found the Joomla 1.5 platform and want to become skilled at this. It's great.

I have problems like Dreamweaver will not connect to my server but through the FTP (File Zilla) program I don't have probs. This problem is with the Joomla Template Kit 2 program. My knowledge is limited and I am just skimming on the top of everything.

I would love to go to school (Full-time studies in Dynamic Website Design) but I am a Fulltime home DAD with a 3 year old little girl. I have wait for a couple more years yet until Tori goes to school.

I try and pick up as much as I can on video tuturials and other websites but most of the time the computer talk does go over my head.

I would love the assistance because in the past I have been in business, in feild sales and my goal is to one day in the future build a website design business for small business but I do not want to offer any services because i am in the frustrating learning curve and I am scared of not delivering a good product, but am biting at the bit to get it happening.

I know that I can go out and get the deals because I am a true hunter. I would like to make a friend with more skills than myself and possibly with that person we can work together to create: websites for small business.

My phone number is 9383 4639 email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Kindest Regards
Chris Foster

Hi all

See you there.

A couple of topics I'd like to discuss:

1. Search engine optimisation.
2. Transferring a site from one server to another.

If there isn't time can we make it a feature topic for the next group meeting.

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for your suggestions. Will include those topics in the next meeting.
Do you like to present anything along those lines or do you have particular questions?

Cheers,
Matthias

Hi Matthias

They are more general questions.

I have a number of sites that will required transferring soon to their respective servers and I obviously need to learn how to do it.

As for the SEO, it is an extremely important aspect of websites and I'm curious to know what Joomla has to offer and what one should be doing specifically for this area.

Hi Matthias,

It's just starting to get too expensive to travel these days with fuel prices as they are from where I live. I'm sure you understand.

Can you check your dates though for the benefit of others.. the 26th is a Thursday.

Any chance of minutes or something like that for your "bush brothers"??????

Cheers,

Ric

Oh and a PS.... Is there and RSS feed or a subscription to the board as a whole like on SMF. Missing too many posts.
Now Retired but still interested...

Hi Ric,

Thanks for the clarification. Our meeting is on WED, 25 June!!! Will make changes across all documents.

Yes, we will also post minutes into this thread. Raoul is back and he volunteered to take some notes.

In regard to RSS feeds, have a look at the bottom right of this (and all other) forum pages. There is your subscription button.

Matthew, I am sure we can answer all your questions next week

Cheers,
Matthias

Hi,

I'm an experienced SQL Server programmer with little experience in web applications and none in Joomla.

I an wondering if the following is a good application for Joomla and furthermore whether it's a good idea to come along to your meeting.

- - - - - - - -

It's a booking system - actually for walks (colloquially "orientations") around Melbourne:-
The visitor requests an orientation by entering details into the public section of the website. The visitor may be anywhere in the world, so data entry is critical. Ideally the email address would be verified perhaps by sending an email from which the visitor clicks a link to complete the application.

Each guide logs into the private section of the website and selects an orientation they wish to do. That orientation is then reserved for them alone.

If an orientation is not taken by a particular time (say 1 day) beforehand, an email &/or text message is automatically sent to the visitor saying "So sorry, can't do".

After the completion of an orientation, visitor feedback would be scanned and attached to the walk record. (optional)

Thanks

Sounds like it would be a great project for Joomla Pete. Just back it with a booking system using Open Freeway (www.openfreeway.org/)
