Hi all,

I'm wondering if any one has an experience with professional video hosting they can share ?

I'm putting together a proposal for a customer and one of the requirements is the need to host members-only video's that can't be "easily" downloaded, copied, shared etc.

Given the projected volume of videos (2-3 added per week) and the number of views of each video (around 5000 per video to begin with) it makes sence to look to a specialised service that I can integrate into a "standard" Joomla site.

I've had a quick look at vzaar but I'm wondering if there are others anyone has knowledge of ...

Thanks

Vimeo is great but their rule mean you can't use it for business - after some research I came up with Viddler - it's $100 a month but works well and some excellent features. If you have more than one customer you can get a reseller account and divide up your $100 account.

Check out www.brightcove.com/en/

I believe that they offer a pretty good service. I havent used them myself as yet though.

Its really hard making videos non downloadable if some really wants to get to them.
Also the other thing to remember is for the player to put out more than just .flv (if your target market may try to view on an iphone).

We were looking into an Australian company called viocorp but they were a little expensive.

cheers,

ant.

You might also want to look at bitsontherun.com, which works with JW player advanced module and plugin for Joomla. They can be a bit pricey though, so also there is gogrid.com (fast, cheaper, much bigger).

Either one of these is very well featured.

I'm using a combination of both on one client site, as the player works on phones, ipads...etc and is hosted, so the feature list is very big and growing. It takes all the guesswork of getting vids working sweetly on a big range of platforms.

If you want to download videos that are online, there isn't much to stop you if you really want to do it. Just search for "download video youtube" or "download audio youtube" as examples.

Have you looked at Amazon S3. My bill last month for photos and videos used on my Loddon Alive site was $0.04. I've had to go into overdraft to pay them! Amazon can be complex to set up and load stuff, but with S3 Fox, a Firefox extension obviously, it is quite easy. Perhaps Jomsocial would suit your needs too and it interacts directly with Amazon S3 for storage.

Cheers,
