Hi All,
I've been using sh404sef for a while now but only today wanted to use the Alias tab when viewing a URL in the URL Manager section. My client changed the URL for her article to something more keyword-rich so I then added the old URL into the Alias tab. Problem is it works if there is no suffix on the end but does not work with the suffix. Despite the fact the old URL had the suffix initially anyway.

i.e.
old URL is: blog/svcupdate.html
new URL is: blog/leadership-effectiveness-projects.html

Alias's set up are:
blog/svcupdate.html - sends a generic red/white 404 error page (does not even use the sh404sef error page...?)
blog/svcupdate - redirects correctly to the new URL as noted above

Has anyone experienced this before? I can't seem to find an answer in the forums for the component.

Thanks,

The generic red/white 404 error is a Joomla error message - and in this case was caused by an article having been trashed, so joomla couldn't display it as it couldn't find it.

The reason the error would still come up is that the URL was still in the sh404SEF database as a duplicate for the URL (as opposed to an alias). Aliases and Duplicate URLs show as columns on the list of URLs, so you can see whether there's a number of them there.

So to fix it, choosing Delete with Duplicates for the problem URL then resolved it, as the next time the URL was accessed, it would have generated the new sh404SEF record. If you think it's only a single duplicate that is a problem, you can click on the Duplicates column number, and then remove the problem one, which you can diagnose by looking at the error message and finding the ID.
