Hello Alice,

I use a company called Hostgator for hosting. They provide excellent online help 24/7 and have the Fantastico Joomla script installers with their hosting packages. You only need the hatchling package for each site you have.

Here what I generally do for Joomla security:

* Never use ID 62 as this is always the first user ID set up. Basically always create a new user with top administrator privelidges. Use a unique username and password. Then login as this new super user, downgrade the old admin users level to just registered and then delete that old user. Now you have a new super administrator with an ID other than 62. I hope that made sense
* Never use the 'admin' as a username which I know you already know
* Password protect the Administrator directory from your CPanel. This is easy to do with Hostgator.
* Delete the installation folder and file from your server
* Disable 'register_globals' directory using the .htaccess file
* Don't use 'jos_' as your Joomla tables prefix as this is the default and hackers look for this a first port of call
* Strong Passwords
* Once all of the above is done change the 'configuration.php' to ready only. 444

Here is a list of great sites I like to look at:

thank you neilforrester. well i have some more questions regarding this hosting. i want to include more domains on one hosting pack and found that newsprout doesn't has reseller and hostgator plans are good and seems its joomla friendly. are we allowed to change memory allocations in the php.ini when we have memory issues?

i took your security points. and also the links they are helpful! thanks again

Hi Alice,

You should just get the cheapest reseller package from Hostgator here:
www.hostgator.com/resellers.shtml

It's very easy to set up accounts and packages through the WHM (Web Host Manager) once your reseller account is set up. You can easily change your clients band width allowance and disk space if you like. I have never had to mess around with php.ini files to control my clients account settings. It's all done through the CPanel/WHM in your reseller account.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,
Neil
