Glenda,

Go to Site > Global Configuration (assuming you're an administrator or super administrator). On the site tab, you'll see a section for Metadata settings.

Fill in the description and keywords fields and click save.

For the description, it's recommended to keep it under 70 words (around 350 characters). Keywords are not so much used by google and other search engines any more, but are looked at at the article level by the internal joomla search.

To add metadata to each article - recommended so that you don't have the same global description on every page - there's metadata parameters on the right of the article editor screen.

Hi Patrick,
I tried exactly what you said and saved the changes but when I went back to see the changes, they hadnt taken effect.

Maybe there is another change that I need to do.

PS I am the member who offered my building in Thomastown for your next meeting. It is actually a funeral home. The offer is still there if you get stuck, I have plenty of car parking (free) and are well set up for meetings.

I would be very interested in attending the meeting wherever it is being held.

Thanks
Glenda

Patrick's advice is correct Glenda. Nothing else you need to do. Perhaps you should clear your cache after doing so to see the changes or do a hard refresh.

Cheers,

Hi Ric,

I have just tried again and I noticed this message at the top of the page.

An Error has occurred! Unable to open configuration.php file to write!

Thanks
Glenda

You need to make your file writable or, what I would do, is just open the configuration.php file directly from cPanel File Manager and write the meta description and keywords in there.

You can change the permissions on the file to make it writable temporarily via cPanel or FTP if you still want to make the changes via the Global Configuration in the backend of your site.

Sorry Glenda... Should of thought of permissions. Jen's right. Make the configuration.php file writable temporarily with permissions of 644. Then change it back to 444.
