Hi all,

Just after some advice / help.
Server setups and configuration is not a strong point, so I apologize if the following queries seem a little dopey.

We are just finalizing a primary school website.
and will be loading up onto clients server.
Still need to get details off them, but its a windows server (they get free space off the government).

I have never uploaded a site via any other means besides cpanel, so will definitely require some help when the time is due.
Firstly does joomla work on the windows server environment? Secondly is anyone interested in uploading the site and providing instruction on how to do so in the future. If so please give me a ball park cost for this.
We will provide an akeeba backup to do this.

Its a couple of weeks out still.

Thanks again for a great meeting last week.

cheers,

anthony S.

Hi Anthony,

This is the basic syestem requirement for joomla to work on any server.

help.joomla.org/content/view/1938/310/

You can use FTP prog if they don't have cpanel and upload the akeeba backup with kickstart to the server and then restore as normal.

Feel free to call me on 0433 685 964 if you are not sure for anything else or post here so someone else also can help you on anotherquestions.

Joomla is written for Apache, MySQL and PHP with PHP being the most important. Once you had to get PHP running on a IIS server before anything else but now Microsoft has written processes to get Joomla running on their servers - lots of articles out there eg www.microsoft.com/web/joomla or webmasterformat.com/blog/joomla-on-windows-server

The get the file up you'll need FTP access and then you can restore with Akeeba

Sure, Joomla! runs fine on Windows. If the web server is IIS rather than Apache (not necessarily the case) you can do the deployment with IIS Manager from inside Computer Management. You'll need access to the IIS Administrator profile, or maybe the domain administrator if the web server authorities haven't been set up properly.

You may also need to install PHP and MySQL first if they aren't already there. Windows now has a web platform installer. This will install all the prerequisites and Joomla! as well. If the server has this thing installed that will make the whole process a very simple job (firewalls and proxies notwithstanding).

I am also happy to give you a hand with the deployment if you need it. The job shouldn't take longer than an hour or two.

Good luck ...
