Hi all,

For some reason I am getting errors when installing joomla.
After doing a bit of digging it seems that at the end of the installation I dont have a configuration.php file in the publichtml folder.

I have no idea why this is happening all of a sudden, I have tried uploading multiple different versions of joomla 1.5 and they are all having the same problem.

I tried copying a config file from another site and manually making the changes, but I must be missing a few of the changes as this also gives me errors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quick Update.

Was trying to do this on Jumba and getting all the errors.
Just tried on Micron21 and it worked...???

hmmmm

Cheers,

ant S.

Probably site configuration or permissions.

You said "publichtml" folder. Is that really its name? It should be 'public_html", and there should also be a 'www' alias (actually a symlink) pointing to it. Perhaps the web root directories on the two hosts are actually named differently, or misconfigured?

Are you sure you are unpacking the Joomla! full install in the root folder and installing from the web root? Or are you installing in a sub-directory or sub-domain?

Why are you using Jumba if you have an account on Micron21? I know which one I would be using.

Hi Russel,

sorry I was being lazy when I was typing in here.
Yes I installed into the 'public_html" directory following the same procedure as I always have.

I have done about 50 installs so far with joomla and never run into this problem.
I was absolutely tearing my hair out until I tried uploading onto Micron 21 and then it all worked correctly.

I use jumba for clients that want large storage and unlimited transfer.
I know its a crappy service provider, but until I get more clients I have to keep them as an option.

Would be interested if any other jumba users have run into any problems?

Cheers,

OK, it's a mystery.

Once again, the place to look is in the server error logs.

Good luck,

Ant,

Don't know if you're still having issues. Unpacking the default 1.5 install you'll find there's no configuration.php file.

To fix your issue, manually create the configuration.php with writeable permissions before you run the joomla install. It reads as though the issue you actually are having is that you don't have a configuration.php in your site in order for Joomla to save the configuration to at the end of the installation.

Hi Patrick,

Doesnt the config file get automatically created when extracting the master zip file and going through the installation process?
And its bizzare that it wouldnt do it on one server and then work fine on another?

cheers,

ant.

Not bizzarre... just how it is. Unpack a fresh build yourself and see. If you've been restoring akeeba backups, then you've probably just not encountered it before - kickstart modifies the existing configuration.php along the way.

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the info. I have mainly just done fresh installs and have never had the problem before.
but I will do some more homework and learn a bit more about the whole process and what happens behind the scenes.

thanks again,

anthony.
