Hi,

Will be in tonight. I do have a question about JCE: when I upload a PDF - it says "-451: unsupported file size" for some reason. Has anyone faced this problem before?

Regards,
Amrit

Gday Amrit
what size is the PDF? I'm not familiar with JCE but I think it is a preference you can set for the maximum file size that can be uploaded. In Wysiwyg Pro its set under component config.

We can look at it tonight if you like I know a lot of the others use JCE so I'm sure it can be fixed.

MJUG Meeting Minutes, August 27 2008

Agenda:
6:30-6:45 Networking and chat
6:45-7:00 Abite Expo feedback
7:00-8:15 Joomla project showcases
8:15-8:30 Q&A

6:30 Open and Introduce the people present
15 people plus two skype (Norm and Brendon)
Norm, Joomla Developer
Matthias, Joomla addict, marketing strategy, chair
Jaryd, Preflight
Scott, Preflight
Nik,
Pete, SQL Server programmer
Gerard @ Hitme Studios Joomla and ASPX Developer
Soma @ wire media communications
Geoff @ Joomla Developer
Mark, Oracle and DBA, Web developer
Jennifer, web designer
Michael, ICE-EM, ICEMaths, AMSI.
Raoul, ICE-EM, ICEMaths, AMSI.
Matthew, Meehan Design, Wed/Graphic Design
John, Isitemedia, Joomla Developer
Amrit @ St. Columba's College - IT Support Officer & Joomla! Fan

6:45 Site Show-and-Tell
  • Jennifer's www.ladybellerouge.com.au (vintage template by joomla shack)
  • Moved onto talking about sh404SEF (a new JED editors Pick)
  • talking about: what is MooTools in relation to JavaScript, Flash etc. and explaining links with Google etc
  • talking about google ranking and keywords, sitemap modules, google webmaster tools can delete old cached links for 90 days.
  • John's acorn.org.au showing/using SlideShowPro Director, an ajax driven web gallery ($29.95 license per site)
  • www.taros.de (Matthias related) always generate content as google keeps indexing the site, and increases/improves searches as they become more specific
  • Brendon's buyonline.com.au and ninemonths.com.au, talking about indexing old sites
  • "Call for action" It is important to point the visitor to the next step to proceed. A call for action means to provide details such as "contact Matthias Raab to discuss your job opportunities with Taros". Aim to put Contact us on everypage, rather than having just a link to the "Contact Us" page. This increase Google's effectiveness big time! eg: search for "container melbourne" in www.google.de and note the article about wridgways at www.deutscheinmelbourne.net in the results! Not only that this article ranks no one in google, it also generates good revenue through google ad sense ads on www.deutscheinmelbourne.net as it a content rich, search engine optimised article about products in a competitive market segment.

7:35 Question Time
  • Closing down old sites, but how to keep ranking and summary... (use 301 redirects etc) Also: Create a free google webmaster tools account, add site, verify that you're the owner, then manage accordingly. Very good tool, highly recommended!
  • Where to put google analytics?
  • depends on programming language, eg php = footer, asp can be header etc
  • What is Yigg? (and Digg, Buzz etc) Independent news platform (Social bookmarking), eg: so that people can see what articles people are reading about. Hence you can generate external traffic also. (Yigg is German version, Digg requires an account).

8:07 Norm produces a very interesting "noise". Best noise ever to get attention of usergroup when video conferencing!!
  • Avoid words like "click here", Google dislikes generic based words.
  • Google loves keywords in alt tags for images etc. plus it's kind to people with disabilities

  • Textbased browsing is very good to review and analyse your site. It shows things that you would not see via a GUI browser, but shows what a search engine sees. Use the text based browser Lynx.
  • Gauge how many get to your site from search engines, compared to people typing URLs in directly. can get this via [ur=http://www.google.com/analytics/l]google analytics[/url]. Then bounce rates come into play to help you further develop the effectiveness of your site.

8:20 Pictures show from last week's Abite Conference.

8:40 meeting officially ends, one on one discussions resume

Hi, if anyone wishes the notes to be updated/modified (names etc) please email me and I'll update them for you.

Matthias, Do you think it's worth having somewhere dedicated solely for the minutes?
as it took me a while to find the last minutes I produced, even when using search.

Cheers.

Re:Melbourne Joomla User Group Meeting on the 27 Aug? 3 years, 8 months ago #651

Hi Nick,

I showed this to John that day and apparently I had an old version of JCE. So I installed the new one and I had set it to 10000KB. However, the uploading doesn't seem to work as it should be - any ideas?

And which calendar module you use? I am currently using JCalPro and it's a bit weird. Keep me posted.

PS: Sorry for not coming up to you about this problem at first, was lost!

Regards,
Amrit

I've had this problem befor and in my case it was a setting in the php.ini file.
Look for this setting and adjust the upload limit to what you want.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; File Uploads ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

; Whether to allow HTTP file uploads.
file_uploads = On

; Temporary directory for HTTP uploaded files (will use system default if not
; specified).
upload_tmp_dir = "c:\php4\uploadtmp\"

; Maximum allowed size for uploaded files.
upload_max_filesize = 15M

I now do this on each Joomla site and it works every time.
I also use the JCE on ever site and love it.

Gerard.

Hi Gerard,

Note what template you're using and have a look in the templates directory.

Also, depending on what you're wanting to do, the CSS files of your respective template may also be what you're wanting to edit as well...

Cheers
