I've just bought a MacBook Pro (17\", 4Gb RAM) and I've never had a Mac before, and never really used one for any great length of time.

I'll list the problems I'm having to try and keep everything in the one thread, but I'm happy to split into many threads if required.

1.Biggest problem at the moment : I'm used to Firefox on Windows, and you start typing in a URL and it matches to all previously visited URLs and you can scroll down and choose (this is all happening in the location bar). It doesn't happen this way on my Mac I have no history in the location bar, and no history in the History sidebar. I'm guessing it's a setting somewhere, but where ?

2. Does anyone have a good Mac replacement for \"SmartFTP for Windows\" ? This FTP client blows FileZilla and a lot of other FTP clients out of the water, but I can't find a Mac equivalent that does the job that SmartFTP does.

Can anyone help with this ?

That's my two biggest problems for now, there's bound to be a few more but I am really enjoying the Mac experience.

Unusual for a non-Mac user to go buy a mac

I don't know that we have many other mac users on here at the moment, so you might be better off googling to find a support forum.

1. You have a range of browsers available on the mac, each do different things.

IE will do one thing (and even worse in some cases than PC IE), while Safari does another, and Firefox on the Mac should be pretty well the same as on the PC.

Mac Firefox: en.www.mozilla.com/en/firefox/all.html

2. From experience, the range of FTP clients are more diverse than the browser wars. It will be a case of trial and error I'm afraid for a Mac FTP app that does all that SmartFTP does. www.pure-mac.com/ftp.html

I use Bulletproof FTP (and occasionaly SmartFTP) on the PC, so it may be that Bulletproof for the Mac might be one to try.

Yes, it does sound strange but I might head down the OS X road rather than the Vista road. A few guys at last night's meeting use Mac's so I thought they might be interested in some Mac chat here as well, hopefully I'll end up being bilingual (Win and OS X) in a fairly short time

1. Sorry, not all that clear ... I'm using Firefox on the Mac as well.

2. Thanks, I'm trialling quite a few so now I have a few more to try

Firefox isn't clearing it's history on exit perhaps (just thought I'd check that one)?

Otherwise, might leave it for a Sydney mac user to respond.

Hey guys how is everyone.

The most dependable FTP browser to use is an extension/plugin for firefox called FireFTP.

I have been using it for a while now and it works perfectly.

I second the recommendation for Yummy I di d lot of research into Mac FTP and this was the one I chose. Since then they seem very good with upgrades which so far all seem to be free!

Re the history issue I also use FF on Mac and history works for me and it did out of the box so I'd suggest a reinstall or upgrade

Hello,

In reply to your questions these are the answers I have:

1: Open Firefox. With Firefox now open click:
Firefox (top left on your screen) / Preferences /
Select Privacy and then edit the Remember History to what you require. You current settings are probably set to remember history for zero days.

2. For a great and cost effective FTP program use Fetch on a Mac. FileZilla is free but a bit clunky on a Mac. I've used it for years and it's ace.

Here's a very useful link for Mac uses:
