Just a bit of a photographer publishing on the web.

My interest has broadened to the publishing of the journals of Australian explorers. (copyright has elapsed)

Need to get a whole lot of duplicate content away from my unique stuff.

Have been using WordPress to publish the journals but since I need to make a change, I may as well make it a big change, to Joomla.

Struggling with some basic stuff so will post some questions, css mostly.

Thanks,
Laurie.

Hi Laurie

Welcome! They sound like interesting projects. I hope you find the help you need here and feel free to post the URL of your site, if you have something to share.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome, Dex.

Yes, I'll add a couple of my sites to my signature. Sure it will do me no harm!

I'm in a bit of a bind at the moment:

My main site is a hand coded, html site. It has got just too big to be adding new pages to the nav. The site needs a rebuild anyway. I can now see that it looks a bit naive.

But more importantly, after hovering around the first page SERPs for several years, for several keywords, I've dropped off the radar.

Problem seems to be that I've created four WP journals of the explorer, John McDouall Stuart, in folders of the domain. Although my versions are unique in their presentation (one day to one page and searchable) the content isn't unique to the web.

Accordingly, I'm on a mission to get my head around Joomla so I can create a site of Australian Explorers with maybe 2000 pages.

Also want to rebuild my Wilderness Photography site with Joomla.

My several other WP blogs on the domain can remain because they are all unique content and on topic. WP is good too, ya know!

Thanks,
Laurie.

Ya so generous, Dex!

My projects are a big deal to me but I'd guess in terms of the work of a full time web developer they wouldn't amount to much.

Gday Laurie
welcome I'm not sure if you are melbourne based but regarding your issues with SERPs and duplicate content you might like to check out the Google workshop being offered by Jim Stewart. Many of us attended his talk and Google workshop on the Sunday at the recent Melb Joomla Day.

I understand that Jim is currently offering a workshop at a greatly reduced rate to support Bushfire victims and that might be of interest to you. (its certainly much less than normal and of course a good cause)

I have no connection I just attended his workshop and really got a lot out of it re google. also Jim is pretty familiar with Joomla as he uses it himself.

I think there is a link on the main page of this site if you are interested.

Like Dex I'd also be interested to checkout your sites
