Hello, This is my first post here.
I missed Joomladay 08 because I only found out about it on Sunday. I kicked myself
because I am really warming up to Joomla now.
I have my own software development consulting business here in central Victoria. Over the years I have come to understand the importance of Joomla and its ease of use.
I would now like to branch out my business so that it provides Joomla driven websites. I want to be able to offer customers website packages.
I have a fair understanding of open source and the Joomla license. However I am still not entirely sure if what I want to do is ok and how things should be worded.
I am proposing that I provide customers with open source website solutions with Joomla as the foundation and community developed components for extra functionality. I have a graphic artist so we would supply the site templates, and sometimes use community templates.
My first question is this:
I can charge for my services of providing the customer with a website, but I cannot charge for the open source software... right?
And my second this:
So if I make it clear to my customers that they are paying for a service, and not paying for the open source software Joomla, then that should cover me legally... right?
At some stage I imagine that I will need to outsource some custom component development too, So I would be interested in hearing from people who would be willing to invoice me for some work.
TIA,
Peter Mead
