If you are using a version lower than 2.6.10, you should update right away. There is a vulnerability that could enable your entire Joomla site to be compromised.
During a routine audit done by the Sucuri firm, they found a critical vulnerability and informed the VirtueMart team. The bug was immediately patched (in record time) and the version 2.6.10 (stable version) and 2.9.9b (in RC state) fixes this issue.

An article by VirtueMart explaining the issue (and how to fix manually if you need to) is located here.
Full credit those those involved for the identification and speedy fix of the security vulnerability that was discovered. Mistakes will always happen regardless of the entity owning the work, and it's how you deal with these issues that matters. This is an example of the power and flexibility of the community driven Open Source sofware development model.
In spite of interruptions (us clearing out of the building for a fire alarm), unexpected restarts and even being mistakenly blocked by a Joomla security add-on, Nicola Fleming from WebCoast demo'ed the case for using RSForms for constructing forms in Joomla. (At least it was better than the previous month when she was thwarted from attending by highway traffic.) What a trooper!
